The Thinking Fan's Guide to Baseball

Revised Edition
By Leonard Koppett
Foreword by Pat Gillick
The third book in SPORTClassic Books' Hall of Fame Edition series, The Thinking Fan's Guide to Baseball was a 1967 classic by renowned baseball writer Leonard Koppett. It examines every facet of the game from batting, pitching and fielding, to media, labor and baseball economics.

Leonard updated his classic several times prior to his death in 2003, most recently in 2000, and the editorial staff of SPORTClassic Books has worked to preserve the integrity of the manuscript while updating for key changes that have occurred during the past few years. Pat Gillick, erstwhile general manager of the world champion Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Oiroles and Seattle Mariners, provides a thoughtful introduction and tribute to Koppett, his lifetime of work and, in particular, this volume.
About the authors
Leonard Koppett authored 17 books, including The Rise and Fall of the Press Box. His career spanned six decades and included stints at The New York Times, New York Herald Tribune and the New York Post. He died on June 22, 2003 at the age of 79.

Pat Gillick is regarded among baseball's top executives of the past quarter century. He built the expansion Toronto Blues Jays into two-time World Series champions before moving to Baltimore and leading the Orioles to an AL East title. During four years in Seattle, the Mariners under Gillick won more games than any other team in baseball and, in 2001, set a record for victories in a season. He currently acts as a consultant to the Mariners.
