Total Tennis

The Ultimate Tennis Encyclopedia
Edited by Bud Collins
Total Tennis is the fourth book in the successful series of Total encyclopedias, following Total Baseball, Total Football and Total Hockey. It is a comprehensive reference book comprising player profiles, Grand Slam, Davis Cup and Federation Cup tournament results, world rankings, Hall of Fame listings, insightful essays, a player statistical registry and other statistics, photographs, plus a complete tennis history from 1874 to 2002.

The book incorporates, revises and expands upon material from the popular Bud Collins' Tennis Encyclopedia, which has seen three editions since 1980. Total Tennis will include profiles of Venus and Serena Williams, including analysis of how the dynamic sisters are changing the game, as well as retrospectives of the careers of such ageless veterans as Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi. Also new to Total Tennis will be the game's first player registry comprising year-by-year statistics and biographical summaries of the top 250 players in tennis history. As the sport of tennis undergoes a renaissance, Total Tennis will be the sport's most authoritative statistical and historical reference guide and a must buy for serious tennis enthusiasts.

Praise
"Bud Collins set out to write the tennis bible and produced a book of revelations for tennis fans. The newly-released Total Tennis: The Ultimate Tennis Encyclopedia is undoubtedly the most comprehensive compilation of tennis history ever published."
- Tennis Week magazine

"Tennis journalist Bud Collins serves an ace down the "T" with this definitive new reading and reference guide of the sport, which integrates, updates and expands upon material from the previous three editions of his Tennis Encyclopedia. ... this book is much more than an array of numbers and cataloguing of records. Several articles previously published in SPORT magazine complement Collins's own colorful and in-depth player and tournament profiles. He examines the game's earliest years, starting in 1874, and transitions into engaging year-end-reviews (1919-2002), all of which help the reader to understand and appreciate the sport's long and rich history. Despite a couple of blips, this is highly recommended for all sports collections."
- Library Journal, by Howard Katz, New York City
