Total Hockey: Second Edition
Edited by Dan Diamond, James Duplacey, Ralph Dinger, Ernie Fitzsimmons,
Eric Zweig
The Official Encyclopedia of the National Hockey League Total Hockey is the second edition of the most complete hockey reference ever published, cataloging every imaginable piece of information about the game, including a complete NHL player register that numbers more than 5,000. Each entry includes complete career data that cover not only a player's NHL experience, but also statistics from junior, collegiate, senior, minor pro, European, Olympics, and World Championships competition.
Painstakingly and lovingly compiled and produced by editor Dan Diamond and his highly-knowledgeable team based in Toronto, Total Hockey celebrates the history of the sport, but also pays close attention to how today's game of hockey works and, above all, respects the game and the accomplishments of the men (and women) who play it.
The book is divided into seven sections:
- Section I deals with the origins of the game and its earliest days.
- Section II examines the state of the game in four spheres: Canada, the United States, Europe and women's hockey.
- Section III tells the story of the National Hockey League from its founding in 1917 to the 30-team circuit of today.
- Section IV reports on junior and minor pro hockey in North America, with an emphasis on little-known and forgotten teams.
- Section V looks at international hockey, the Olympics and European national leagues.
- Section VI covers hockey's many other facets, including fan clubs, books, television, goalie masks, the Internet, oddities and families.
- Section VII presents the complete registers for players, goaltenders and coaches, and contains selected biographies as well.
