Baseball: The Biographical Encyclopedia
By the Editors of Total Baseball
The complete biographical encyclopedia of the national pastime, this 1,298-page volume features biographical essays on the 2,000 most talented, famous, and influential participants in baseball history.

From Henry Aaron to Richie Zisk, Baseball: The Biographical Encyclopedia provides quick access to the stories behind baseball's most notable careers. Produced by the editors of Total Baseball, this reference book goes beyond the numbers to reveal the highlights and lowlights of the game's key contributors. Each entry includes personal data such as birth and death dates and sites, major league debut dates, and height and weight; readers will also find essential career statistics and thumbnail photographs for each featured personality.

The thoroughness of the Total Baseball editors is in evidence on virtually every page of this volume. Even the selection process to choose the 2,000 entries—of the 15,000-plus players and countless other owners, umpires, broadcasters, sportswriters and promoters—was rigorous. The easy stuff were the decisions to include every Hall of Famer, every position player with 2,500 hits and every pitcher with 200 wins, ever winner of each league's Most Valuable Player or Cy Young Award. From there it got a lot tougher, with many of the final decisions influenced by turning to both the traditional baseball statistics and sabermetric derivative statistics found in Total Baseball.

The final roster would seem to be pretty well-balanced, but if you happen to find your favorite player missing, feel free to send along an e-mail making the case and we promise to consider including him for the second edition.
