The Babe

The Game That Ruth Built
By Lawrence S. Ritter and Mark Rucker
The Babe: The Game That Ruth Built is a lavish celebration of the life and times of the greatest baseball player who ever lived. Consisting of 350 photographs, many of them extremely rare and some of them never before published, The Babe recounts the classic rags-to-riches tale of its subject in chronological sequence--from Ruth's harsh and regimented childhood at a Baltimore reformatory, on through the awakening and development of his baseball skills, to his subsequent years of glory with the New York Yankees. Lawrence Ritter's decade-by-decade account is as generous as the accompanying photos in regard to detail, drama, and surprising revelations.
About the authors
Mark Rucker has been called "the game's greatest pictorial archivist," and his work was notably on display in Ken Burns' documentary film Baseball.

Lawrence S. Ritter is the author of the classic The Glory of Their Times. Widely regarded as the greatest baseball book ever, it has been in print continuously since its publication in 1966.
