The 12 Greatest Rounds of Boxing: The Untold Stories
By Ferdie Pacheco, M.D.
Foreword by Roger Kahn
Award-winning author Roger Kahn (The Boys of Summer) provides a new foreword to Ferdie Pacheco's colorful recounting of the greatest rounds in boxing history. Drawing on four decades of ringside experience, including 15 years as Muhammad Ali's doctor and 20 years as a broadcaster, Pacheco sifts through that lore to select his 12 top rounds. Pacheco reviewed the historic importance of the big fights and selected the key round based on its impact on the outcome and, ultimately, on boxing history. He made his selections based on personal observation plus a lifetime of listening to boxing insiders-trainers, promoters, referees and boxers-as they regaled him with their memories and anecdotes. Pacheco reveals how winners were determined by such factors as mob connections, chicanery, romantic liaisons and other zaniness common in boxing. Along the way he provides fascinating insight into boxing immortals such as Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Ali and others.
